The Nun Who Nurtured Reggae

This is the truly inspiring story of Sister Mary Ignatius Davies. A nun who ran the music programme at a school for wayward boys in Jamaica for 64 years until her death in 2003. She is credited with nurturing the talents of many of the key players in Jamaican reggae when the industry took off in the 1960s and 70s.  This is what life s about.  Truly inspiring.  Accessible music in a different way I guess, Sister Mary made life accessible to these biys through music.  Giving them a trade, an outlet for their creativity.  I guess accessibility is a two way street.  The sound quality on these links is a bit dreadful but please stick with it, some great interviews with some all time greats of Reggae.  They have a syaing in the Carribean “Ting don’t run she, she dem run ting!”.

More power to your winple Sister Mary, a legend.  (its a three parter –  parts 2 ,  and parts 3)
